In the year Jim along with Sasha Allen were able to make it on The Voice Live Shows, they made history because Sasha is the very first openly transgender contestant in the NBC competition series that made it through in the Battle Rounds in the entire 21 seasons. Newtown's pair, Jim and Sasha Allan, are now in the Top 8 during the 21-year run of The Voice Live Shows! Sasha revealed his transgender status when they announced their auditions at the Blind Auditions. According to Parade.com the decision was not a quick decision. Sasha stated that it was a struggle to choose because he needed to expose a vulnerable aspect of himself in front of millions and millions. He transitioned when the time was when he was in high school. This past week, during fan week, seeing the support from people and their reactions and the way the people reacted was well worth it. "We performed it long before The Voice was even a reality show for us. When we received it, we were ecstatic. The song was one we knew and we had concepts to create. The fans truly hit the mark."
